Passion is a strong and barely controllable emotion. Have you ever felt this way over something you have done or created? When you pick up your camera, do you feel like a part of you wants to soar into the heavens? When someone asks about your photography, do you find yourself automatically smiling and your heart starts racing? If so, you maybe passionate about photography; you don’t have to answer out loud. Even though many of us have picked up a camera for different reasons, the passion that resides inside of us for this medium of art is what drives us all. For many of us, this passion can only be told in a photograph. After all, a photo is worth a thousand words, and we at times we have an epic story to tell. This passion also drives our satisfaction. For some it is just taking a snapshot, for others, it is conveying an emotion, a source of inspiration, an ideal of perfection, or even to speak when words can’t be spoken.
Passion is also a great motivator. It captures within our hearts a desire to learn and expand our minds. It challenges us to take chances. We learn to explore not just our subject’s feelings, but our own as well. We become explorers, and the world is undiscovered territory. We feel our way through a harsh and beautiful world with a unique set of eyes, because, due to this passion, we see differently. Beauty takes on a new meaning. Yes we learn about shutter speeds and f-stops, but the passion is what drives us to capture the essence of the world around us. The good and the evil, the beautiful and the ugly, the free and the oppressed. All of this is just a part of what we do.
Passion takes us to new heights and new understandings of the world around us. We see things through an unbiased view of the lens. When we take a photograph, we come to realize that the world isn’t sugar-coated, but with that knowledge, we still find beauty in it, even if it is harsh. Just like nature, photography can be loving and cruel. The things we see in photographs and the images we take, can make us either happy, sad, or angry. With all this, the laughter, the tears of frustration, the horror, and the drama, it is the passion that keeps us doing what we do. Passion is our driving force, our muse, our ball and chain. So we go forth, cameras in hand, capturing the world in our memory cards. For the good and the bad we go forth. With this passion residing deep inside us, our images become the windows to the world’s soul. Our images echo the laughter and cries of the planet Earth. We photograph families, weddings, strangers on the street, atrocities of plague and war; we show you the world’s soul. Both light and darkness, we give you what drives us. We give you our passion, in an image, with a small part of us included. Photography is us, photography is our passion. See the world with our eyes and see the world as something new.
